A shoe-in

New to retail in Malaysia is the French ballet shoe company, Repetto.  Have you ever tried their shoes?  Not their ballet shoes.  They are sooooo comfortable!  Ultra soft leather with handmade attention to detail.  Ready for a night of dancing these shoes are pretty with dresses and jeans.  There's a nostalgic Edith Piaf-ness to them.

Here are some of my favs...

Onora - a gorgeous metallic shimmer to this blue suede shoe.
Baya - classic perfection.
Gisele - for a hint of ballerina.

Weekend musings

Inspiration: Miranda Kerr in leopard Equipment dress.

Love this armchair -gorgeous!

The key to leopard print is an irregular pattern.

I am a little bit of a perfectionist, just a little.  Or perhaps obsessive?!  Either way I have needed wanted some cushions for my huge grey sofa for quite some time now.  I mean, I have been looking for a year now!  I think finishing touches need to be perfect.

I love colour and was thinking something bright like an orchid purple.  But now I've found these leopard velvet cushions;  I am in L-O-V-E!!!!  They are so chic and timeless.  And they will look amazing with orchid purple.  I love bringing fashion home!

I hope you've had a great weekend!  Happy Australia day!!

Great drape!

With Hollywood glamour on my mind, I have been spotting dresses that have beautiful drape.  I am a little obsessed with this one by young designers Cushnie Et Ochs.  I like the white, but would LOVE it in a rich jewel tone.

It's so lady like and yet unfussy; so simple, so chic!  Ahhhhh, perfection!!!

What not to wear: Golden Globes

Heidi Klum's natural beauty is lost in this ensemble - the dress
and choker are distracting.  There is too much going on here!
A model of her calibre should know better.
Audrey Plaza looks like a little girl in these
colours; "but purple is my favourite colour!!"
It's very matchy-match and the pink clutch... oh dear!

Berenice Bejo has possibly found the most ill-fitting and unflattering
red dress ever.  Such a shame because she is stunning.
Hayden Panettiere wears an amazing Tom Ford dress - totally unsuitable
for her figure.  This dress fragments her already petite figure and
highlights her round shoulders.  Let's not talk about the hair.
Edie Falco strikes a great pose in this dress, but this dress is
too sack-like though the middle and the bow is too much!
It looks like she is trying to hide something.
Mila Kunis always looks great and this dress is gorgeous,
but it's a mismatch - this dress is too old for her and better
suited to Helen Miren.

How does this happen to celebrities?  I guess even with stylists and a fabulous selection of dresses to choose from, they are not immune to making mistakes.  Here are 3 tips when making fashion choices:

1)  Put yourself first!!  If the dress isn't making you stand out/ look radiant, it's not worth wearing... even if it's your dream designer and 90% off!

2)  Don't get caught up in the details; always pay attention to the overall look, especially the silhouette.

3)  Be true to yourself!  Be appropriate to your age, your passion, your figure.  Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.  And don't listen to the unkind voice in your head!

Golden Globes favourites

Jennifer Lawrence, a vision in Dior
Cate Blanchett, regal in Armani Prive
Lousie Roe in Monique Lhuillier
Julianna Margulies in Andrew Gn
Lupita Nyong'o, statuesque inRalph Lauren
Robin Wright in shimmering Reem Acra
Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Narciso Rodriguez

I love a great movie, but that's not why I watch the Golden Globes.  For me it's about the red carpet - I love seeing the gorgeous dresses!!!

When a celebrity gets it right (usually their stylist) they look totally comfortable and at ease; totally owning the look.  Have you ever noticed that?!  It's inspirational.

And when they get it wrong... Sooooo uncomfortable!!   Or perhaps too comfortable, too safe?!  Not good.

These ladies were shining stars.  Cate Blanchett always looks A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!  And Jennifer Lawrence is following in her footsteps.

A new year

'Appy New Year!!!

Today was my first day back at work - haha, yes, shopping!!  Tough job, I know!  I had a F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S holiday break over Christmas and New Year spent with the best of friends, but it's great to be back and shopping the sales.

There are definitely bargains to be had!!  Of course Zara and the like have a mountain of overstock sale items - hey, everybody needs basics and fun fashion fixes.  But if you have planned your wardrobe well and only need a top-up, there's an opportunity to leverage your style with quality designer pieces at sale prices.

DVF has a gorgeous selection in their 30-50% sale.  Missoni has beautiful items up to 70% off.  The bargain of the day?... Kenzo at 80-90% off!!  My client went home with three white bags of goodness.  She already has an amazing wardrobe, but I am dreaming of how much these gorgeous clothes will sparkle!

Sigh... sale contentment!!  Ahhhhhh!

Last minute gift guide: HER

Following my gift guide for him;  here's one for her...

So you're planning to buy her present this weekend - just goes to show that you have put in extra time, thinking of the perfect gift!  In case you are still unsure, I've got some ideas that will melt her heart:

A wardrobe essential - an evening bag or clutch.  If in doubt stick with classic colours and simple lines.

A cashmere cardigan - not too long, not too short; fitted with no buttons.  Soft greys look good on almost everyone!

A gorgeous silk shirt - cotton shirts are good for guys, but silk is so much more feminine and sits better on a woman's body.  French brand Equipment makes the perfect luxe shirt; it's worth the splurge!!

A jewellery box - leather, timber, mirror... The choices are endless.

A leather bound journal or notebook - use the first couple of pages to write a love note!!!  She will treasure this.

A special piece of jewellery that finishes her favourite outfit - requires extra thought, but shows that you have been paying attention.

Jewelled hair slides - so her hair frames her beautiful face.

A luxe scented candle - for her dressing table or bathroom.  Nothing makes me happier, hmmm... except flesh flowers.

For a touch of glamour - Charlotte Tilbury's "Bar of Gold" skin gilding highlighter.  Creates a radiant, lit-from-within glow!  (Most cosmetic brands make highlighters, but CT's has the prettiest packaging!)

Last minute gift guide: HIM

One more weekend to go.... Christmas frenzied shopping has begun!  If you're stuck, here's some ideas on what to get your guy:

A merino or cashmere v-neck pullover (who doesn't want a new one!)

A pair of luxe leather gloves - timeless and will last forever.

A carry on suitcase or weekender bag - always useful.

A gorgeous oversize scarf - to keep him cosy.

A masculine bracelet - there are so many types to choose from.

An ultra-cool book like "Unseen McQueen" - finally a coffee table book for guys!

An Aesop gift set - "The Athlete"or "The Dapper Gentleman".

And don't forget, if you get him something for the house, something "useful", he's likely to return the favour.  But-t-t-t if you get him something personal; maybe, just maybe, he'll take the hint!!!  (Pffftttt, at least for next time!)

Good luck!

Designer Cues

For several years now, designer Alexander Wang has been a favourite of mine. Modern femininity, clean lines and a fabulous balance and play of textures.

I know what you're thinking: "Ha! Not everyone can wear this!"; "The model looks amazing - just look at how long those legs are!!!!!"  Well, that's true.  Nevertheless it's fabulous inspiration!

The classic tailored pleat shorts are brilliantly juxtaposed with the street-style hooded parka... of course those boots finish the look to perfection.  Mixing texture is key to great style.

And the centre fringe on the dress and top is genius!  It's a great way to draw the eye to a line, elongating the body.  The garments fabric works well here too, because it doesn't cling.  Just remember to stick to shapes that suit your body best.

Wang, you've done it again!
